This video by Michael Looke, a 3rd Dan Shotokan Karate-do, goes through a number of defensive strategies and counter attack methods to a Masashi Geri (roundhouse kick).

He demonstrates a number of techniques including:

- bridging the gap (to reduce the power of the opponents kick)
- deflecting the kick and counteracting
- capturing the kick and turing it into a spinning throw
- passing, resulting in a deadly spinning knife strike
- a strategy to draw the opponent into attacking in a particular way which opens them up to a counter attack

The techniques demonstrated, and principles discussed, are applicable to other styles of martial arts.
