Burns Pathophysiology and Treatment

In this video we are diving into the pathophysiology, types, signs and symptoms, and interventions for burns.

Pathophysiology of burns: they are caused by a source of heat, chemicals, radiation, or electricity which is transferred to the skin and the burn occurs. When the burn occurs, the skin and underlying tissues become damaged, which triggers the release of certain chemicals. These chemicals go and tell the blood vessels to constrict. This causes the cells to separate and become leaky leaking fluid into the surrounding tissues causing edema.

Signs and symptoms of Burns: The initial signs are things like redness, blistering, or charring of the skin and depending on the severity it can cause fluid and electrolyte shifts, decreased sodium, increased potassium, and an increased hematocrit level.

Nursing Interventions and assessments for burns: you'll make sure their airway is clear, then you'll give oxygen as prescribed, and then you'll start IV fluid resuscitation. You will need to monitor for any fluid shifts and electrolyte changes that can occur, and will monitor for infection very closely.

Alrighty, that was a lot to take in, great job, friend! You are doing amazing, keep the faith!
