The Peacock family have a rich farming family history dating back to 1856 at Orari Gorge Station in the South Canterbury hill country, from the late Charlie Tripp.

This week on the PGG Wrightson Stud Tour we find that the picturesque station property is a lot more rugged than it appears with over 75% of the stud operation run on steep hill country. Robert Peacock, son of Graham & Rosa, now manages the operation with a focus on 'if you can measure it, you can manage it'.

Robert with his team at Orari Gorge measure more traits than most stud breeders and they are quite innovative in their approach, but with a vision of simply breeding more easy-care sheep and cattle for NZ hill country conditions.

Tony Glynn, of RuralTV.co.nz, gets to see Orari Gorge Station from the air thanks to Laurie at Station Helicopters, catches up with local PGG Wrightson stud stock agent, Callum Dunnett, as well as three fantastic properties where the Orari Gorge Hereford, Romney & Romtex are going - Marty Deans at Barewood Station, Jim Lawson at Waikouaiti and Robert Grant at Manderville.
