Sound examples played by Dirk van Coevorden from TFOA.

Gibson L5 Lloyd Loar Signed, Dec. 1 1924, SN 77392, met Virzi tone #10313, This is a sensational Instrument, even to our standards. Only a hand full of these are know to exist and each of them is of great historic importance. Only a few instruments have the legendary historical status of the L5, depening on your style of playing the Fender Stratocaster/Telecaster or Gibson Les Paul, or- if you are an Flattop player the Martin D28 or D45 might surpass the legend of the L5, but it's for sure that with the making of this first ever L5 the Legend of the Archtop started. Only few pre-1925 examples are known to exist up till today, and only a few are signed, and one of the first ever Gibson L5 signed by Lloyd Loar is is therefor a sensational find. For Reference please check Darryl Wolfe's F-5 journal. This L5 is fitted with the Virzi Tone Producer, features Flamed Birch back/sides and silver plated hardware. The guitar is in exceptional condition for it's age, travels in a Calton case, but the original case comes with the guitar. Lloyd Loar created the L5 and F5 mandolin in the early 1920s, known to be the middle of the Banjo boom, the expensive L5 was sort of ignored by players untill Eddie Lang recognized the potential of the L5 archtop.
