AS 129 - i've found a new baby - 1934 Gibson L5

Hey guys, today It’s been a while since I posted a video of that beautiful 1934 Gibson L5 !! The song is « I’ve found a new baby », it was composed in 1926 by Spencer Williams and Jack Palmer. I haven’t learnt the lyrics yet so this one is an instrumental version, and I’ll record the other one in the future. I’ve recorded a version of that in the Django style with my 4tet, with 2 special phrases in the arrangement, I’ll put the video at the end of this one (it’s on my other YouTube channel).

I’m playing a 1934 Gibson L5, which is interesting to compare to the Epiphone Deluxe 1934 on this channel since these two were the 2 competitors, highest grade Archtop in 1934. The L5 has the 16 inches body and the short scale, and the Deluxe has the 16,5 inches body and the long scale. To make the test fair, please wait a bit until I post a video of the Deluxe with Phosphore bronze (I’ve just changed them, the sound is huge compared to the flats). Back to the L5 : it’s strung with Thomastik Spectrum Bronze strings gauge 12, I’m playing a Dunlop purple .71mm pick, and the sound is captured by both a Neumann TLM103 and a Bluebird.

For those who wonders if these guitars are mine, most aren’t but I’ve been lucky to be able to present them on this channel for you to enjoy (a few different private collections in Europe, mainly France).
