Everything You Need To Know About The Viking God Heimdall

Описание к видео Everything You Need To Know About The Viking God Heimdall

If you know anything about Heimdall, it's either because you're already a Norse Mythology fan or because you know him from the Marvel movies — aka you've seen Idris Elba portray him. Well... there is a lot of truth contained within Marvel's Heimdall, but it only scratches the surface of the mighty god. What the MCU does get right though is Heimdall's importance: This guy is the guardian of Asgard, watcher of the Bifröst, and... watcher of all things to be quite honest.
Norse Mythology's Heimdall also plays a major role in Ragnarök, has a forever feud with Loki, and also... had 9 mothers. No, not in the spiritual sense... literally 9 women gave birth to him, because his father Odin was on one. It's as confusing as it sounds, and it's a good way to kick of this episode on Heimdall The Watcher, Norse Mythology's sentinel, who has all the tools any passionate stalker would envy him for:

Notes:
Oh, Norse Mythology: How scattered you are. It's not only that the ancient Northmen (or is it Norsemen?) weren't exactly huge on documenting everything, it's also the fact that time wastes all, and Christians don't exactly like competition when it comes to beliefs... so over the many many centuries, Norse Mythology has become a collection of scattered texts that have been re-told and re-written over and over. With every god, there are many different versions that were told in various regions over various eras. For the sake of this video — and all my videos — I try to streamline these stories as much as possible and leave out some details, this might bother some, but it makes these videos more fun to watch. I don't want to get caught up in the details and lose sight of the bigger picture.
So... is this accurate and well researched? Absolutely, 100%. Is this the only interpretation or way of recounting the tales of Heimdall The Watcher? No, but subjectively speaking… it’s the way I like it the most.

Get All My Artwork & Support The Channel:
I get a lot of questions about my artwork and where it’s from or rather who draws it. Well the answer is that I create it — I don’t draw it. I use AI to create the artwork, using specific prompts, specific style influences from 18th and 19th century artists, and I spend about 6 hours per video just on the artwork. Each video has roughly double the artwork of what you actually see in the video, so a lot of it is unused. The good news here though is that you can get all that artwork on my Patreon — the artwork I do use, and the artwork I don’t use. Plus, by subscribing to my Patreon you are making a major contribution to Briefed and helping me to keep this channel going, because this is my full time job and the survival of the channel and quality of the videos greatly depends on said support. In return for supporting, you get more than the artwork though — you also get exclusive videos and producer credit, as well as access to a producer group that gets to vote on thumbnails, gets behind the scenes etc.
If you choose to become a Patron — thank you. I do not take it for granted.

Sources:
A lot of people ask me about my sources, and… to be honest, they are a mixed bag. One major source is my lifelong interest in storytelling and mythology. Another is the beautiful endless library that is the internet, and, third, I read the occasional book from time to time, which I’m happy to recommend to you, but also… I’m planning to write my own book on mythology, so, in due time the answer will be…:
Source? Me. Yay.
