Adding a Folded Neckband to Your Hand Knit Sweater

Knitting Tutorial: Folded Collar Demonstration.

This cable sweater was knit in pieces and then sewn together and I wanted to finish it with a folded neckband just for a nicely finished touch.

Knitting a folded neckband or collar is actually pretty simple (if time-consuming) and can easily be added to many different sweaters. Here's how to do it:
1. Pick up stitches for the collar according to your pattern instructions.
2. Knit in your chosen stitch pattern until the collar is twice as long as you want it to be.
3. Fold the neckband to the inside and whipstitch the live stitches to the pick-up edge along the inside.
