DAY 1 I Session III - Leangkollen Security Conference 2024 - NATO 75: Past, Present & Future

Since after World War Two, US leadership has secured a long period of peace in Europe. Europe has become reliant on US security guarantees, and now, when NATO will mark its 75th anniversary in Washington DC and the US will elect a new government, the situation might change. With the US increasingly shifting focus away from Europe, and possibly NATO, Europe must take more responsibility for its own security. Who will stand up for Europe if the Americans leave? Will the key European actors be able to align their diverging security interests, and will a natural leader emerge?
