The Norwegian Folk Museum in Oslo shows how people have lived in Norway from the 16th century until today. Here, daily life in the cities and in the countryside is presented in one of Europe's largest open-air museums. The museum's exhibitions display unique cultural treasures from all over Norway.

Among the attractions is the Gol stave church from approx. 1200 and the OBOS-gården Wessels gate 15, which shows apartments from the eras when the farm was inhabited, from 1865 to 2002. Houses from Norwegian rural environments are gathered in farmyards from different districts, houses from the cities are placed in quarters in the museum's "Old Town".

The Norwegian Folk Museum was founded in 1894 and looks after large collections of objects, pictures and archives from all over Norway. The exhibitions show folk art, folk costumes, church art and Sami culture. In addition, exhibitions on current themes are shown. The museum has a rich program offering and offers activities for children and families. The museum has around 250,000 visitors each year. King Oscar II's Collection, which is considered the world's first open-air museum, is part of the Norwegian Folk Museum.

Since the Norwegian Folk Museum was established in 1894, the museum has aimed to give a broad picture of daily life in Norway, and to show the interaction between society, culture and nature. A central task for the museum is to shed light on questions related to what it means to be Norwegian and to what constitutes Norwegianness in line with changes in society. Not least, this has been actualized through the changes in population composition in recent decades.
