Is it possible to eat a fish, prawns, crab and shellfish lunch in Goa for less than Rs 200? Yes, it is, at Blue Moon restaurant, located exactly at the Corjuem end of the Aldona-Corjuem cable bridge on the Mapusa-Moira-Aldona-Bicholim road.

When going from Aldona towards the Corjuem/Bicholim side, you will see Blue Moon on the left, as soon as you drive off the bridge on the Corjuem side.

I visited Blue Moon with three wonderful people, Vikram, Alok and Cath, who I’ve been very privileged to know for a long time now. These are the friends who have always inspired me to live in better ways, whether by protecting all creatures great and small, or by freely enjoying all kinds of life’s pleasures.

Vikram and Cath were having modso (lemon fish) thalis; Alok and I were having chonak (sea bass/sea perch) thalis (Rs 280 each). But we were really starving that day when we reached, so we ordered some crispy xinaneo (mussels) and prawn plates for starters.

The xinaneo was superb and the rawa fried prawns were some of the best I’ve had.

My chonak thali had: Fried chonak, fish curry, crab, tisreo, cabbage bhaji, dry prawns kismur, tantiam bhurji, sweet, sol kari, salad, rice and a banana. It’s very rare to get crab and teesrio. That’s a very generous thali.

Two weeks later, we’re recrossing the Aldona-Corjuem bridge through the monsoon mist, so Cath can have another go at finishing a Blue Moon thali. Today I’m having a bangdo thali and Cath is having prawn thali.

My bangdo thali had: bangda, sol kari, sweet (shevayachi godshe), prawns bhaji, prawns kismur, tidki midki bhaji, tisri, lovely big crab, fish curry, rice, salad, banana and pickle.

The prawns in Cath’s thali were huge. The prawns always seem very big at Blue Moon.

As can be seen from both our visits, the bhajis change from day to day. Two weeks back we had a lovely egg bhurji; today we had this tasty prawn bhaji.

Blue Moon is a superb place, if going from Mapua to Bicholim for work, or from Mapusa to Bicholim/Sanquelim for any reason, come via Aldona-Corjuem bridge to Blue Moon. It’s really superb food. At not many places you’ll get fish, shellfish, prawns and crab on the same plate. Take it from me. The prices are really value for money in Blue Moon, a must-visit in Bardez. I paid just Rs 180 for my bangdo thali which had fried bangdo, and crab xec xec, and prawns bhaji and teesrio, besides the main prawn curry. I can’t think of any place where I got this variety at that quantity for less than Rs 200. Even Cath’s prawns thali at Rs 280 for all that and 4 huge prawns is a very good deal.

Hope you enjoy the 4K, hires video
