Near Infrared Light Therapy treats cognitive and anxiety disorders

Helmets and caps using near infrared light are currently under study for neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. They are also used to treat anxiety disorders.
A 2019 article published in the Journal of Photobiomodulation, Photomedicine, and Laser Surgery, titled ‘transcranial photobiomodulation with near infrared light for generalized anxiety disorder, a pilot study’ looked at 15 subjects with generalized anxiety disorder using an 830nm near infrared light head band with an intensity of 30 mW/cm2 (2.4W total) 20min daily for 8 weeks. They noticed a significant reduction in anxiety, as well as significant improvement in sleep.
This non-invasive technology is very promising to treat various conditions.
