We can all agree that Superman is the greatest DC creation of all-time, right? Yes? Cool. Now, prepare yourselves for someone who makes Kal-El look like a toddler with a bottle of milk in terms of sheer power-scaling. Not a lot of people might know this, but Action Comics- the site of Superman’s birth- isn’t the first comic book series that DC started publishing. Even their flagship Detective Comics series would only begin printing in 1937. No, the honor of being the first official published comic book anthology in DC history goes to More Fun Comics; home to some of the best occult-themed characters in comic history, like Doctor Occult & Doctor Fate. And in 1940, 2 years after introducing Superman to the world, Jerry Siegel managed to outclass his iconic creation by harnessing the lore surrounding the Creator of Our World; allegedly. Superman was created to be the perfect hero; a model citizen, a good human being, and a morally conscious enforcer of the law. No wonder he was a literal alien because when Siegel looked to Earth for inspiration, he came up with one of the strongest and most enigmatic characters to ever grace the pages of a DC comic book. The Spectre debuted in More Fun Comics issue no. #52 and has since become a Final Boss-type figure in DC; showing up during the biggest, continuity-shifting events and saving our beloved heroes from meeting an untimely death, time and again. Let’s take a look at this Spirit of Vengeance who Embodies God’s Wrath; this is Spectre’s Origins – Explored.
