Fanfare for the Common Man - Wingates Band

A little over a year ago, our reality changed beyond recognition. The alterations to our daily lives unimaginable to most. Silent and separated in the real world; our band, like many others, moved to making music in a virtual and distant space.

As we now look forward to the lifting of restrictions, the band are hopeful and excited to leave behind the microphones and “cautiously but irreversibly”, start moving towards making music together in a ‘new normal’ – however that may look.

Making the most of new freedoms, a selection of members from the band, in small socially distanced groups, travelled across Bolton to film our new video: ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’ by Aaron Copland. From Winter Hill at 05:30 in the morning, to the quiet interiors longing for footfall of Bolton Steam Museum, we wanted to capture just some of the places and organisations that make our home so special to us.

We hope this will be our last ‘distance banding’ video, where each member of the band recorded their own parts in isolation. We hope that live music making will soon return and that the virtual support shown to us by the community during the last 12 months can be repaid on a stage near you.
