Doc Rivers : Before Coaching Doc Could Hoop

This is a look back on Glenn or Doc Rivers. When most people hear Doc Rivers name, they think of him coaching. What most may not know was Rivers could hoop and was a rather good NBA player. Thriving on the court with his high basketball IQ and level headedness. Helping him dissect the defense and find the open man regularly often being near the top of the league in assist per game in his prime. Doc Rivers was also a great theft picking people’s pockets and reading passing lanes becoming a great defender and similar to assists he was regularly one of the best at it. Coupled with him being a solid scorer that could go for an outburst because people over played his passing. All of which helped Doc Rivers become top recruit in the country winning Mr. basketball USA in high school. Before joining Marquette where he’d star for three years and with team USA. Even winning FIBA World Cup MVP. Then making his way into the NBA finding his footing in Atlanta with the hawks where he put up the best years of his career. Being the perfect complimentary weapon to Dominque Wilkins always seeming to set him up in the right place. Leading the hawks to multiple playoff performances and even made an all-star team. Becoming there all time assist leader. Then bouncing around to end his career with the Clippers, Knicks, and Spurs. Being a key part of their respective playoff runs. Before retiring ending his career after numerous injuries throughout caught up to rivers in the end. Heading into coach soon after where we still find him today coaching the Bucks.
