Masood Ahmed Joya, a retired lawyer, lives in Pakpattan. He was new entrant in primary school Sirsa when India was divided and Pakistan emerged on the map of the world.
He was about 8 in 1947.
Panjuana was his native village where his paternal family had been living and cultivating lands. His father, along with his family, shifted to Sirsa and opened a general store.
He recalls the turbulent days of 1947, when they were living in a mohalla where muslims were in minority. A muslim policeman sent a message to his father to shift in neighboring mohalla where muslims were in majority. So they shifted in order to remain safe.
Curfew was imposed. There were attack on Gujjranwala mohalla, he listened the gun shots echoing in the air. The fear of being attacked and killed was all around in the city.
Then they had to leave the city for Pakistan. Muslims of Bighar village helped them in their journey.
Their journey was safe as there was not murderous attack on their caravan, though it was never devoid of fear.
Travel was really tough.
He also recalls his maternal village, Ahlekarian.
