Описание к видео Robin Hendrix tries Edmund J Myer's vocal technique using "Long Time Ago"

Mezzo-soprano Robin Hendrix learning the gesture that Edmund J Myer discovered in the late 1800s, and published in a series of books dating until 1918. She uses the old song Long Time Ago to try out the technique. The gesture Myer discovered appears to have achieved all the goals of the old Italian school in one single effort. The voice is placed because the conditions for correct placement are fulfilled. The gesture is in three parts - Lift, Expand, Let Go.
If these three things can be done simultaneously, the body is in a wonderful position to support a beautiful sound, made by the gentle inflation of the ventricles of the larynx. Lift the torso up from the hips, Expand every cavity that can hold air while also expanding the hips, and finally let go of all muscular activity above the chest - devitalize the face, throat, tongue and jaw. Find a balance of pressure between the motor (abdomen) and the resistence (chest), and singing becomes natural and a delight to do and to hear.
The books of Edmund J Myer are available on Archive.org.
Robin is still learning the gesture and so there are some exaggerated moves, facial expressions and other elements that will in time find their proper balance. Stay tuned...
