This is a 16mm scan of a couple early episodes of Boken Shonen Shadar (Adventure Boy Shadar) from 1967, produced by the same, now defunct company that made the first animated adaptation of Doraemon. This series is largely lost media aside from a few clips on YouTube. Only the opening animation was ever released on home video on a compilation VHS/LD of nostalgic anime openings. Otherwise, it was never released, making this 16mm print one of the only sources of surviving footage of the show in its most complete form. Unfortunately, the opening and ending animations, and some title cards, are missing from this print. Each episode is only about ten minutes in length, so this scan contains a couple of episodes spliced together.

The film was acquired by @nappasan on Twitter and scanned it with us in 4K resolution. He also took the liberty of painstakingly color-correcting the print, which was very, very badly faded. It was extremely difficult to get the scan back to the condition we were able to get it to, but we feel it is the best it will ever look. The show was very low budget and very sloppily made, so there are tons of oddities in the animation and the print itself is rather low quality regardless of the bad fading. As a result it is extremely grainy. It is also substantially dirty and scratched up.
