Soy Garlic Chicken Wings is a popular choice at Bonchon, a South Korean chicken food chain restaurant. For this recipe; the chicken wings are cleaned then mixed with calamansi juice, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Marinated for a few minutes while making the breading which is a blend of flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, and other spices. The wings are then double fried, to a golden crisp before coating in a special soy garlic sauce.

INGREDIENTS:

500grams chicken wings
2 teaspoon calamansi juice (or lemon juice)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika

FOR BREADING
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika

FOR SOY GARLIC SAUCE
2 tablespoon butter
3 cloves garlic
2 tablespoon soy sauce
2 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoon water

Steps:

Prepare the chicken wings; place this in a bowl with calamansi, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well and marinate for 30 minutes.
For the breading; in a container mix together all purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Coat the chicken in the breading.
Heat oil in a pan at medium heat. Once it bubbles add in the chicken and fry these for 12 minutes. Flip if needed. Take this out to rest for 10 minutes.
After, fry again for 2 – 3 minutes at high heat. Take these out and set aside.
For the sauce; in a new pan melt butter, saute garlic, then add soy sauce, sugar, and water. Simmer till slightly reduced.
Add the fried chicken into the sauce. Mix till the chicken is fully coated with the sauce. Serve garnished with sliced green onions. Enjoy!
