FTIOT!
No Training run, Chaos Path (chapter 2)
Second video out of four total that I found worth recording in the first three chapters of the game (Chaotic route). This is actually the next map after the first video of this game that I uploaded, but it actually really stands out in terms of difficulty and the attractions you see here (Orb-using Summoner, armies of undead etc.).
I've noticed from the comments I've previously received that the PSP version of this game and the original are vastly different, and if the players who played them converse, they're almost talking about two different games, so I'm going to explain some things in greater detail.
First of all, my army. The classes you can access is determined by current stats as well as alignment - lawful, neutral and chaotic. Only neutral characters can be Dragoons, and only chaotic characters can be Terror Knights, for example. You have to plan quite a bit ahead to have the team you desire by endgame for that reason (so if you're training a mage for a Warlock and he happens to be Chaotic, you'll never reclass him to one).
Besides the two undead - the Skeleton and the Ghost with floatwarp movement type - my team is essentially made of glass cannons with long range right now. I equipped my characters with a short bow (occupies only one hand) and a short sword of some sort so that I can also counter some direct attacks for good enough damage. I don't rely on counters and frontline attacking much, because two direct attacks and my characters are probably dead. In other words, I haven't got a single character that can be considered a tankish frontline fighter at this point (I fix this later on, though).
The main character Denim is a Ninja, which makes him fragile but with good accuracy, evasion, movement and jumping skills, plus Incubus for a decent chance to sleep an enemy (his DEX is high so he's my best sleeper actually, much more accurate than either of the offensive mages). I want to turn him into a Terror Knight, so that he can tank while at the same time having an insane dodge rate, but you need 30 kills to turn into one - and he doesn't get very many kills at all, with a below average attack stat and his fragility keeping him away from the frontline where most kills are scored. He is also the only character who can persuade the enemy to join me, meaning he has even less time to get kills.
So without a proper tank, the undead act as meatshields. The skeleton is massively underlevelled at this point but I found him better to field than Presance. Presance is an Exorcist meaning he can banish the undead summoned in this fight, plus help out with healing, but he screwed up a half of my previous attempts because the Ninja like finishing him off after the summoner attacks the whole party.
And that's another problem in this battle: if the Summoner has lost an ally, she will summon a monster (two undead first, then Gremlins). If there's no need to summon, she'll use her Fire Orb, dealing heavy damage to my entire party. This attack can miss, but it hardly does at my levels. Very heavy injuries after it, and that's when we're about to deal with the three Ninja bowmen who can reach anyone and pick them off. Killed units can't be revived just yet (until I get a Priest), meaning they're gone forever.
The map is over when the boss dies; however, there's some sense in fighting everything instead. First of all, to gain some needed experience, but second is to recruit a Lawful Cleric on the enemy's team. My own Cleric is neutral, meaning she can't become a Priest (only class to use Revivify). Later battles get terribly messy with at least a couple units dying (I'm undertrained, remember), so a Priest is much appreciated. Lawful healers are also more skilled than any other ones, too, so it's a nice addition.
You might think killing two Ninja makes this a relaxed battle, but it does not - hence the length. The undead keep coming back to life (both mine and the enemy's), and the Summoner calls upon Gremlins. These flying glass cannons with bows are very dangerous and need to disposed of ASAP. For some reason, they ganged up on Forcas who's one of my tankier characters (which isn't saying much, as I prefer healing items equipped instead of armour, shields or helmets). He was on the verge of dying at one point but I was lucky, managing to heal him on time.
The battle was so hard that I was forced to recruit the enemy's ghost, putting the odds in my favour. Recruited units function as guests for one battle, which can be a bad thing if they accidentally kill another unit you're about to recruit. This was about to occur when I was trying to hire the very desirable Lawful Cleric. It was a risky recruit attempt because she wasn't quite low on HP and I did from the side, but I was lucky.
