Rich Froning Jr. (born July 21, 1987) is an American professional CrossFit athlete known for his achievements in the 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 CrossFit Games. He became the first person to win the title of "Fittest Man on Earth" four times with his first-place finish in the 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 CrossFit Games. In 2015 and 2016, he led team CrossFit Mayhem Freedom to the first-place finish in the Team category in the CrossFit Games and claimed the Affiliate Cup. Froning has not only been successful in the sport; he has been a pioneer in making a living off of the sport of CrossFit. Froning has won over $1,050,000 in prize money for winning the CrossFit Games four times, and has accumulated significant sponsorships from brands like Reebok, Oakley and Rogue Fitness. In early 2015, Reebok released a shoe designed in part by Froning which bore the name of the Bible scripture tattooed to his side, the Reebok CrossFit Compete 6:14. Recognizable by the tattoo of Galatians 6:14 scrawled from his left armpit to his hip, Rich Froning Jr. was dubbed the Fittest Man in History after winning four back-to-back individual CrossFit Games championships (2011-2014). Seemingly unbeatable, he also won the worldwide Open for three consecutive years (2012-2014), and when he retired from individual competition after the 2014 season, he captained his affiliate’s team, CrossFit Mayhem Freedom, to two back-to-back Affiliate Cup championships in 2015 and 2016.
From 2012 to 2016, Dan Bailey made five CrossFit Games appearances, and posted five Top 10 finishes. That’s the consistency of a world class athlete, and Bailey—the 2015 “Spirit of the Games” award winner—is certainly that. A former track and field standout at Ohio University, Bailey was introduced to CrossFit while studying for his master’s degree at the University of Akron in 2010. Finding a new outlet for his drive to compete, he soon became an annual presence at the Central East Regionals, reaching the podium each year from 2011-2013. In 2014, when his professional life forced a move to San Diego, Bailey didn’t skip a beat—reaching the podium at the SoCal Regional that year and taking first place at the California Regionals in 2015. A pectoral injury sadly cut short Bailey’s 2017 season during Regionals, but as his competitors have long since come to know, no challenge fazes the “The Danimal.” A former Division-I sprinter at Ohio University, Dan Bailey is a five-year individual CrossFit Games veteran, finishing within striking distance of the podium in each of his Games appearances (his best finish was fourth in 2015). Winner of the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games worldwide Open and perennial fan favorite, Bailey earned the distinguished Spirit of the Games Award in 2015.
Known for his Hulk-like victory scream, Josh Bridges is a four-time CrossFit Games veteran and a CrossFit athlete since 2005. A former collegiate wrestler and U.S. Navy Seal, Bridges has won three of the five regional competitions he’s competed in and finished on or near the podium in three out of his four Games appearances, with a career best finish of second in 2011. Though Bridges devastated fans when he failed to qualify for the 2015 Reebok CrossFit Games, he made his comeback in 2016 after retiring from the military, taking a 13th-place finish as the oldest—and at five-foot-five, shortest—individual male at the Games that year. Josh Bridges is better described simply as one of the world’s top pound-for-pound athletes.
