Sailing from Coromandel to Rotoroa Island Hauraki Gulf New Zealand

The loop of the Haurki Gulf continues. In this episode we sail from Oamaru Bay off the Coromandel Peninsula to Rotoroa Island, south of Waiheke Island. This is our third, fourth, fifth....tenth visit? Who knows but it is one of the islands we really love visiting in the inner Hauraki Gulf This time, we get to share it with our friends which makes it even more special.

In December 2021, we moved aboard our sailboat Te Tāiko, a Chico 40, and we have been fortunate to sail to many of New Zealand’sislands and anchorages. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. Our plan? We try not to make too many plans but plan to do blue water cruising. Whilst sailing New Zealand's northern coastline, we're completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills sailing New Zealand waters.
