Triumph Spitfire Gearbox: Release Bearing & Carrier

The components in this video are the cause of numerous clutch problems you might experience with the Triumph Spitfire. None of them are difficult to correct... just really time consuming since it requires having the gearbox out of the car. If you're changing a clutch, installing an overdrive, or any other number of things that has you pulling the gearbox, this video may help.

The Spitfire clutch suffers from a lack of travel. Problems with the hydraulics not being properly bled, wear of the pin the release bearing carrier pivots on, a slave cylinder that's installed a little too far back... all of these issues added together make for slightly too much slop in the system. That leads to trouble shifting into gears, grinding (it's not always the synchro rings at fault, though this can cause them to wear sooner), and other issues.
