What is HMB? HMB is a metabolite of the amino acid l-leucine, which is one of the 3 branched-chain amino acids and is considered as the central trigger for protein synthesis.

What does HMB do? The supposed benefits of HMB supplements is that they can deliver powerful muscle building and anti-catabolic effects just like l-leucine does, but while requiring a much smaller dosage. The most common use for HMB is during prolonged cutting phases where the trainee is aiming to spare as much lean muscle as possible while losing fat.

Does HMB work? Although some animal studies exist to suggest that HMB is effective for its intended purpose, the reality is that human metabolism does not function in the same way as other animals, and most animal studies are near worthless when trying to determine if a given supplement works or not.

For the studies that have been conducted on humans, the results have been mixed, with most research showing no HMB benefits at all. Not only that, but in several of these studies they even used double the typical recommended HMB supplement dosage.

In my view, the research on this supplement is just far too mixed and inconclusive to really warrant purchasing it, especially when you consider that it really isn't cheap and does have a decent price tag on it. You'll certainly find positive HMB reviews online if you look around, but as always, these are often put out by misinformed people or by those who simply have a financial investment in the product. (This HMB review is completely unbiased as I have no affiliations with any supplement companies)

So, is HMB worth it? At this time I really wouldn't bother spending your cash on an HMB supplement, and would recommend that you just stick to the basics instead.
