Phlage will be our guiding light as we take our first taste of MH3 Modern! (M:tGO Modern League)

If you play or have followed Modern M:tG for any period of time, you know that the Modern Horizons sets have been totally format defining! The power level of cards like Yawgmoth, Wren and Six and the pitch elementals is far beyond what you typically see printed into standard these days. There is absolutely no reason to think this will be any different for Modern Horizons 3! The power level of this set seems at least in line with the other Horizons set, or possibly pushed even further! Such a wild west of a format is a scary place at first for a jank brewer like me, so we're going to ease our way into by just tweaking an old brew with some new MH3 tech! The plan of our Warleader's Call Boros midrange deck is simple: use soul sisters, such as the new Guide of Souls, to gain life as token producers like Goblin Rabblemaster keep the bodies coming to get those healing triggers (and pings!)! Heliod, Sun Crowned turns that life gain into offense, adding counters to our dorks to create an overwhelming board state and beat our opponents down. And as a Boros deck, we've got plenty of burn and other interaction available to us as well as amazing sideboard options. The MH3 card I'm most excited to try out is Phlage, Titan of Fire's Fury! Kroxa and Urro have both proven themselves to be powerful (broken even!), and I have every confidence Phlage will as well! As someone who loves burning their opponents in the face, the idea of a repeating Lightning Helix on a 6/6 beater puts a smile on my face! White Orchid Phantom seems like an excellent MH3 addition in a format where we're bound to see Ugin's Labyrinths and Urza's Sagas out the wazoo! Vexing Bauble seems like an amazing new sideboard options to shut down all of those awful pitch elementals and make them play fair! And we're going to try out some of these new MDFC lands as well as well which all seem incredibly good to me! There's decently costed for good effects and the ability to come into play untapped really pushes them beyond what we've seen previously from this card type! MH3 really has some juicy and fun bits for our strategy! We are dangerously fair though. Can such a fair, slow, grindy midrange deck survive a now turbo infused MH3 Modern format? Probably not, but we'll have some fun and get the lay of the land!
