Resistor Color Codes Explained with Examples

Описание к видео Resistor Color Codes Explained with Examples

Resistor Color coding (3 bands, 4 bands, 5 bands, and 6 bands) has been explained with Examples,

What is Resistor Color Code:
Resistors are usually very tiny, It is very difficult to print values on them, So color bands are printed to represent the electrical resistance, These color bands are known as resistor color codes.

How to read Resistor color codes:
To read them, we have to hold the resistor in the correct direction, Generally, the color band placed closest to the lead is considered as the first band and so on. Another way is the extra space between the two bands also indicates the reading direction.

Basically, Resistors can have 3, 4, 5 or 6, color bands. And accordingly, they are known as the 3-band, 4-band, 5-band, and 6-band resistors respectively.

4-band Resistor Color Code:
1st Band - 1st Digit
2nd Band- 2nd Digit
3rd Band - Multiplying factor
4th Band - Tolerance

3-Band Resistor Color Code:
In 4-Band Resistor, if the 4th band or the tolerance band is missing then it is known as the 3-Band Resistor, For these resistors, the tolerance value is assumed to be 20 %.

5-Band Resistor Color Code:
1st Band - 1st Digit
2nd Band- 2nd Digit
3rd Band - 3rd Digit
4th Band - Multiplying factor
5th Band - Tolerance

6-Band Resistor Color Code:
1st Band - 1st Digit
2nd Band- 2nd Digit
3rd Band - 3rd Digit
4th Band - Multiplying factor
5th Band - Tolerance
6th Band- Temperature Co-efficient of resistance (In ppm /K)
