Gion is Kyoto's primary Geisha/entertainment Districts. The traditional wooden teahouses and merchant shops (machine) contribute to the charming "old Japan" feeling that's so prevalent as you walk around Gion's streets and narrow alley-ways.

HOW TO GET THERE:
If you’re coming from Kyoto station, you could take the 206 bus and get off in front of the Yasaka Shrine. You could also take the subway to Sanjo, but you'll need to walk a further 10 or 15 minutes.

Gion-Shijo is the closest train station. This is on the Keihan line, so you might have to transfer from the subway.
