An often forgotten short lived Spring perennial that will not disappoint with it's special blooms! Bleeding hearts are perfect for part shade gardens, and grow specifically well under deciduous trees. The leaf mould that is naturally created in the Autumn mimics the bleeding heart's natural woodland environment. You can even plant bleeding hearts under coniferous trees! They don't mind slightly acidic soils.
I actually recommend buying an established plant or asking a friend for a clump rather than seeding. Seeding requires a cold germination time, and involves freezing your planted seeds for 6-8 weeks- doable but a bit tedious!
Bleeding heart has rhizomous roots, and they are easy to split apart, as long as you handle them gently!
If you can think of a partial shade area (East or West facing zones are ideal in my personal experience) in your garden where you have a few feet of space, I urge you to seek out some bleeding heart to add to your Spring collection :)

Love,
