Finish & bind your project with 1) a free-motion quilted, raw-edge binding, 2) a wavy double fold binding, or 3) a turned, hand sewn binding in Part 3 Raw-Edge Applique (REA) Finishing Up. Here, we finish our three projects--tea cozy, trivet or table mat. Following impulses, keeping the flow going, trusting that if we like it, it is good, and that if we don't like it, it is bad - these are the goals of intuitive sewing and REA. There aren't any mistakes if you like it, it is well-made, and it is beautiful. In fact, the steps we take to work through little mistakes open up an area of potential creativity, creating opportunities for something completely new and different; it's the hole that leads outside the box.

3:24 TEA COZY ADJUSTED INSTRUCTIONS are in white and follow video - quilt inset sandwich (front, cotton batting, insul-bright, backing - like the rest of the piece) approx 7 x 13.5 inches
4:05 Split inset into two strips and pin fit cozy to size inset width. Mine ends up 2 1/2 inches wide.

5:36 Sew leaf into seam where two inset pieces join at the top of the cozy
6:00 Match and trim cozy halves for crisp edge
6:18 Pin inset, easing fit; 1/2 inch seam allowance
6:54 Trim
7:16 Pin dangling parts to other side; then do other seam and trim
8:13 Press

8:21 TEA COZY JOINT INSTRUCTIONS Choose binding method - 1) Bias tap; 2) double fold; 3) Raw-edge like french press cozy. Mine advances the french press cozy method with 3 elements to a raw-edge binding
8:34 Cut binding fabric with bowed edge, paper practice, and clean up bottom edge
10:05 Turn cozy inside out and pin binding strips, lapping the first piece over the second. Attach, turn and press.
10:30 Pin binding in place, pinning top strip away at the start position. Free-motion quilt, trimming last shape before starting up on the second fabric. Take your time. Trim shapes.
12:41 Add leaves. Brush and trim fray. Add buttons.

Trim trivet; sew around with fusible thread in the bobbin (no walking foot needed-you could zigzag); cut binding, one strip; selvage to selvage; iron in half and press point; attach binding attending to un-sewn scarf joint; press to fusible, pin as needed, stitch-in-the-ditch

17:35 PART VI. FINISH CONSTRUCTION: TABLE MAT Apply turned binding and watch my flower take shape. First trim off raw batting, clean up edge, and shape flower
18:35 Cut large binding circle (much will become scrap) and stitch on, right sides together
19:41 Trim carefully at 1/8 to 3/16"
20:02 Trim out large circle, turn, clip curves, press and hand sew
