Zazu's original, everyday potholder has a free-motion quilted body, three layers of binding (2 cotton, 1 Insulbright) and a wavy raw-edge binding. Here I provide the steps to make this moderately-difficult project as a housewarming or holiday gift, as well as show myself sewing one potholder in real time in one shot both in a corner of the video and full-size after the tutorial. Please use the time stamps to navigate to points of interest.

0:00 Introduction
0:31 MATERIALS LIST for ONE potholder:
Quilt Sandwich:

2 x 45-inch strip of batik
0:57 FREE-MOTION QUILT with darning foot, starting in center and working out, securing perimeter as you go. OR baste and then FMQ.

2:55 CUT BINDING approx. 2 x 45-inches
3:23 ATTACH BINDING to the back upper right corner to hang as shown using regular foot with guide. Stitching falls a little more than 1/4-inch from the edge with a pretty small stitch (about 2 mm). Fold (miter) and stitch corners as shown. Backstitch end about where the batting ends underneath the binding layers.

6:36 PIN BINDING TIGHTLY keeping concave areas tight and carefully pinning so that you can pivot the corners without stitching over any pins.
8:59 STITCH NEXT TO THE DITCH with edger foot, pulling pins right before you get to them, including AFTER pivoting the corners.
8:13 Hop onto the loop tail and then stitch off of it.
11:08 CUT NOTCH so point falls about where the stitching crosses itself.
11:44 FREE-MOTION QUILT BINDING with feed dogs up or down. Start with tiny stitches or with backstitching. Stitch through notch, onto the tail, and then off of it.

13:36 ATTACH LOOP by backstitching 6 or 7 times.
