Описание к видео How DNA solved this 26 Year old Alaska Murder Mystery - Sophie Sergie

Sophie Sergie was a student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In 1993, she went to stay with a friend who lived in a dormitory on campus. On the night of April 25, 1993, she was last seen when she went out to smoke a cigarette. Her friend suggested she smoke near exhaust vents in the women's shower room to avoid the cold outside. But, after that, Sophie disappeared. Her body was found the next day in a bathtub in the shower room by janitors.

Sophie had been R-word, shot in the head, and stabbed multiple times. I apologize for the censorship but YouTube hasn’t been suggesting my videos at all and I have had to self-censor. The case stymied investigators for more than two decades, until a DNA match using genetic genealogy tracing led them to the perpetrator.

The tragic murder of Sophie Sergie left a profound impact on her family and friends, who waited for over 26 years for justice to be served. Her mother passed away in 2021 before the trial, having lived with the pain of losing her daughter for so long. Finally, after years of waiting, Sophie's family and the community received some closure with the conviction and sentencing of the perpetrator. Join us as we delve into the tragic and fascinating story of Sophie Sergie's murder.
