PCEM V.17: Pentium II 450 MHz Slot 1 Emulation with a I7-13700KF

[Synopsis]

In this video, I test PCEM V.17 using my new computer. The one that I used to test PCEM V.17 was a I7-10700KF back in 2021. I ran a number of games on that computer, like SWAT 3, Panzer Commander, Shogo, Wing Commander Prophecy, but it never ran at 100%. As a result, there were some performance issues, like sound distortions, and the FPS not being consistent or smooth. It would crash at times. The highest CPU I was able to emulate with my I7-10700KF was a Pentium 2 350 MHz. On my I7-4790k, the highest CPU that I was able to emulate was a Pentium 2 266 MHz.

I am testing for performance and stability. On the first test, I play through a level playing Virtua Cop 2 to test the stability of this setup. On the preceding tests, I test to see how the performance is on games that I had difficulty running on my precious systems(I7-10700KF and I7-4790K).

Being able to emulate PCEM V.17 at 100% is like owning a real Pentium 2 450 which is almost impossible to obtain now. I do have a Gateway E-3400 computer with a Pentium 3 1 GHz processor in it, but it is almost impossible to find a 3dfx Voodoo 3 2000 or Voodoo 3 3000 video card for it.

There are currently no developers working on PCEM, so this would be the maximum setting for this emulator. I am also recording this video with a DVR which is taxing the CPU. Never the less, recording at 1080 @ 60 fps didn't really tax my CPU very much. My CPU temps didn't go above 120°F/48 °C, and the GPU temp didn't go above 128°F/53.3 °C running PCEM and recording this video.

As for the programs or games that came out in 1999, and 2000, most of those programs will run on a Pentium IV using Windows XP. I have 3 Pentium IVs, so I will not have any problems running any programs from the period of 1999 to 2006. I can now run every PC program from 1982 to the present.

I owned a Pentium II 400 back in 1998, and the configuration was the following, 128 MB, 8 GB hdd, S3 Virge DX video card with a Monster Voodoo 2 3d accelerator. In 1999, I had a Pentium III 550 MHz, 512 MB of RAM, 8 GB hdd, and a Voodoo 3 2000 16 MB PCI video card. All I had to do was upgrade the CPU, because the motherboard I had at the time was a Abit Be-6 II motherboard which was very upgradeable. The last CPU I upgraded on that motherboard was a Pentium III 850 in 2000. I wanted to get a Pentium 2 or a Pentium 3 computer, but I was never able to get one, so the next best thing was a to try to emulate one.
