If you’ve ever been scrolling on “TherapyTok” or any side of social media where bad advice runs rampant, you’ve probably seen some iteration of the mindset that people don’t owe each other anything. This mentality is singlehandedly responsible for the decay of our social lives, relationships with one another, and communal respect. This video covers how harmful this mindset is to our society today, why and how it got out of control, and what to do about it.
We are obligated to be kind and respectful to others. We are obligated to treat others the way we would want to be treated. And lastly, we are obligated to do what we say we are going to do. Today’s world will tell you that you are entitled to do whatever you want, whenever you want, to whoever you want. This is a lie. You are on the hook for basic respect to others. You are liable to treat each human being humanely. You are responsible for treating people with basic decency.
So, yes. You do owe people something. We all do.
