Hi there, Hyundai owners. Today, on your 2018 Hyundai Tucson, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install Curt's four-pole flat trailer connector vehicle wiring harness. And this is what our harness looks like when it's installed. You're gonna get a four-flat trailer connector, which is going to provide you with all of the necessary lighting signals for your trailer, which includes your left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps, to keep you DOT compliant in all states. The module that's included with our circuit is integrated into it. It will monitor both your driver and passenger's side lighting signals.

And then it will reproduce those signals out here on our four-pole connector. What's nice about the module reproducing those signals and sending them out is that our module has a dedicated power circuit in it and monitors the outputs here. So, if you have a fault on your trailer, the module can shut that circuit down to prevent any issues. But if in the event that it's unable to shut the circuit down in time, since it has its own dedicated power circuit that's fused, the fuse would open, and that would only affect your trailer wiring, it wouldn't affect anything else on your vehicle. So, that way, you can repair the issue that's on your trailer, replace the fuse for your wiring harness here and your backup and running without ever affecting your vehicle here at all.

The installation is pretty quick and easy. We just have to remove our taillight assemblies to get those connectors from our module to plug in there, so it can monitor those signals and then run our power wire up to the front. So, if you wanna follow along with us here, we'll show you how to get those installed and up and running. We'll begin our installation here at the back of the vehicle. We'll open up our liftgate, and we'll need to take the cover off here on each side, so we can get our assemblies removed.

There are small notches located here on the inside. We can see those here and here, at the top and the bottom. We're gonna take a small screwdriver and just get in there behind these notches and just pop these out of here. After you pop it out just a little bit, we're gonna be pulling it rearward because it has those slots to pull it out. You just got to pop it out to get the little ears there released.

Behind this, it's gonna reveal the fasteners that holds our taillight assembly in. We'll grab our 10-millimeter socket. We're gonna remove both of these. And then we can remove our taillight assembly. It pulls straight rearward, so we're gonna try to get it here. Just kinda give it a little bit of a, I'm not hitting it real hard. Just kind of a, a slight little tap there with the palm of my hand to distribute that force going rear, and that'll get it to come out of the little tabs there. Our connector's located here. There's a release tab, right there, so we're gonna press in on the release tab, and then separate the connector. We can now go ahead and remove the other taillight assembly, on the opposite side, the same way. We're now gonna be feeding the harness that we've purchased up through the bottom here, so we can connect it to this connector. It can be difficult, though, to get it up through here, so we're gonna use a pull wire to do so. We're using a piece of airline tubing. But if you're doing this at home, well, a couple of things you could use would be like a metal coat hanger. You could bend that out and go down. Or if you can see, daylight, straight down, then you can take a string and then just tie like a washer or a nut or something heavy to it, kinda act like a little plumb bob to drop it down. So, we're just reaching down below. There is a plastic underbody panel down here, so we're kinda reaching from the inside through the opening here to access this. Now, before we take this and feed it up, you can see here how short our wiring is off of this module. That's gonna make it really difficult to access a lot of the stuff we need to access, so we're gonna have to do some preparation because of how short it is. So, we're gonna take the black wire that's on here, 'cause we're probably not gonna be able to access it later. And if we can access it, it's gonna be a lot more difficult. So, we're gonna attach the extra black wire that comes in our kit to it now. So, we're just gonna take all that extra black wire and we're gonna strip some back. And we're gonna use a butt connector to crimp the two connections together. Now, the butt connectors that come in your kit are great for indoor connections, but for outdoor connections, you really wanna b
