Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2019 Hyundai Tucson, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha Upgraded ModuLite Vehicle Wiring Kit. So this wiring is going to provide us the necessary lighting functions to not only be safe, but legal whenever we're pulling a small trailer. And what it's also able to do, not many people think about is, a lot of hitch mounted accessories, things like cargo carriers and things of that nature actually have lights on them that you can use. In many times this accessories are able just to plug right in to the four way flat connector. And that will work good with this as well.

So this is definitely one of them things that will make you feel a little bit safer whenever you do need to use it. What's nice about this setup is the fact that it uses a module box.So that module box is going to protect your Tucson's factory wiring, if a short or an electrical issue we're to occur on the trailer side. And to me, that's really important, especially with today's newer vehicles, they have really advanced and complicated electrical systems and you don't want to do anything to jeopardize that. So with this setup, you have the peace of mind knowing that if a issue does happen on the trailer side, it's not going to affect your new Hyundai. Now even though we do have this cap, over time moisture can still get inside, especially if you forget to kind of put the cap on every now and again.

So when I do recommend doing is from time to time, take some dielectric grease and just apply it to those terminals. And that'll do a really good job of preventing any corrosion, that way your wiring will last a very long time.So at the end of the day, a great way to power up any of your lights, all while keeping your Tucson's electrical system safe. As far as the installation goes, it's really not too bad. There's really nothing crazy going on everything more or less just quick connects. However, I do want to mention when I had experienced with it, we did fall short of a little bit of wire.

So I would recommend picking up two or three foot of 16 gauge wire and a butt connector to match, to make your install go a little bit smoother and you can find those right here at etrailer. To begin our install, we're going to be here at the back of our Tucson. And what we're going to need to do is open up our hatch. That way we can remove our tail lights. So to get our tail lights out, we're going to have this little plastic black panel here, and we're going to have to get that out of the way, take a small flat-head screwdriver. There's going to be some little indentions, you can kind of just pop that up.

That'll just work it off, set it to the side. Then underneath, we're going to have two screws. So you can either use a Phillips head screwdriver or you can get them removed with a 10 millimeter socket. We'll get these pulled out and then we'll be able to grab our tail light and pull it away from our Tucson. So you're just going to kind of grab and wiggle and pull back. That'll release it. Then we're going to disconnect it and to do that, there's going to be a tab right in the center you can push down on it and pull it out. The other side is set up the exact same way. So we're just going to repeat the same process. So I went ahead and just kind of push this electrical tape here in our factory wiring backing out of the way they give us a little more wire to work with. And I went ahead and tested the wires to figure out which ones we need to work with. So here on the driver's side, this pink wire, that's going to be our taillight signal, this black wire here with a orange stripe. That's going to be our brake light signal. And this white wire is going to be our turn signal. Now, if your wires are different colors or if you would just like to test them to be on the safe side, the kit does come included with the small tester. And so the way you would do that is clip this to the body of the vehicle. It's going to be a ground. So you're going to want to make sure to clip it on some metal and all you'd simply do is turn your signals on. So for example, since our white wire would be the turn signal, say if you had the blinker on, you'd simply just carefully probe that connector and the light will flash. And you could turn it off and just go through the same thing. So have a friend hit the brake pedal, touch that and turn your tail lights on and check that. And over here on the passenger side, the only thing we need to find is the turn signal. And that's going
