Everyone has the power to be a historian within their own community. Somchai "Chai" Kwangtongpanich, is both amateur historian and rope seller in Yaowarat. He invites us all to study the places around us and uncover the secrets of its past using 3 simple things: stories, maps, old photographs, and the internet. He is a true believer that finding our origins is the key to making sense of our reality.

Somchai is a third-generation owner of a rope-selling shop called Kueng Heng Seng in Sam Pheng, Bangkok. He is a committee member and consultant to many organizations and museums including Bangkok Arts Gallery, Yaowarat, Samphanthawong Museum, the working group for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Tourism of the Yaowarat and Related Areas, Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia, Mahidol University, and Yaowarat Chinatown Heritage Center at Trimitr Witthayaram Temple.
