Описание к видео How To Master The Forehand Slice In 5 Steps | TENNIS FOREHAND

The slice forehand is a great shot to have in your tennis arsenal for attacking and defending.

Jeff Salzenstein shares five steps to master the forehand slice . He demonstrates exactly step by step how to hit the perfect forehand slice like the pros, as he breaks down the fundamentals components of it in great detail.

These five steps will allow you to develop the right control and feel on your forehand slice; whether you’re rallying from the baseline or approaching the net. It’ll also help you deal effectively with those low balls coming on your forehand side.

The first step is the grip. Jeff recommends using a “soft continental grip” for the slice forehand. This is the same grip that you’ll use for the forehand volley. You’ll hold the racquet on a traditional continental grip, keep your index finger spread, and then slightly move the heel of your hand towards the forehand side. Consequently, the racquet head strings will face the net a little bit more.

The second step is the first move. Keep your shoulders and hips facing the net, and pretend that you’re going to catch a ball. Once you find this position, you’ll take your racquet back as you get ready to swing. You don’t want to turn sideways right away or take your racquet back too early, those are two common mistakes that you want to avoid.

The third step is the swing path. Jeff teaches what he calls an outside to inside swing path. When you make the first move, your hands and racquet move away from your body with a bent and relaxed arm. You’ll swing the racquet across your body in a slow fashion, instead of going forward too fast.

The fourth step is the finish. You’ll accelerate to the ball, slow down after contact, and finish with the tip of the racquet facing towards the net. Hence, you’ll be able to create sidespin and develop the right ball control and feel. Jeff suggests holding your finish for 2 to 3 seconds after contact.

The fifth step is footwork. Jeff recommends using the carioca footwork pattern when you’re practicing your slice forehand. You need to keep your hips more open and avoid stepping across your body. When you’re running wide, you’ll hit your forehand slice from the outside leg and move through the shot.

The big takeaways from this tennis masterclass are: having the right grip, making a compact first move, getting an outside to inside swing path, shortening your finish, and moving through the shot as you execute your slice forehand. Finally, consider recording yourself when practicing your slice forehand, so that you can study and compare it to the concepts delivered throughout this valuable tennis lesson.
