As Mad Max movies go, Mad Max stands alone as being a fairly believable vision of dystopia (mostly). It was a low budget indie film and moves a bit slower than fans of the newer films may be ready for, but it's still highly entertaining.

I'd seen Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome multiple times before I knew this one even existed. When people said "Mad Max", I just thought they meant Road Warrior. While it's not exactly an obscure film, for the size of the franchise it spawned I come across very few people who have actually seen it.

Of course it launched both Mel Gibson and George Miller, but watching Hugh Keays-Byrne as The Toecutter decades prior to his turn as Immortan Joe in Fury Road makes this even more fun. I hold hope that Steve Bisley (The Goose), Roger Ward (Fifi) or Geoff Parry (Bubba Zanetti) turn up in one of the modern films, as they all played such great supporting characters in this.

I love the whole series (yep, even Thunderdome) and the initial trailer for Furiosa indicates that won't be changing. I don't know who made that trailer but it's awesome and is the first trailer I've been inspired to emulate. Full credit due. The song choice of Redrage by 2WEI is perfect, working with that track alongside the original Mad Max has been a blast.
