What a Fantastic day at Carlisle Station!

I'd expected some interesting trains today with one-off trains planned from Fort William to Carnforth, Long Marston to Kilmarnock, Carlisle Yard to Marchwood and of course the Pendle Dalesman from Lancaster to Carlisle out and back behind steam via Preston, Hellifield and the S&C. A network rail test train was planned to be in the station all day too.

The Pendle Dalesman was hauled by a Black 5 again - long may it continue!

The weather proved better in Carlisle than forecast with some showers for an hour or so in the early afternoon only. Beautiful lighting towards the end of the day. What wasn't apparent untill we actually listened to the announcements fully was the flooding - turns out it was just south of Tebay mostly affecting the Up line. The passenger company operations managers got into action. Avanti allowed most northbound trains to run, cancelling only one or two north of Preston. They cancelled two at Carlisle and returned them to Glasgow in service. TransPennine appeared to wait and run the trains south to terminate at Preston.

The three extra freights were all due to run after 7pm, so an excuse to be there for the pair of 90s heading to Daventry. As it happened, both the West Coast Railways from Fort William was early as was the train from Long Marston with an ex-Transport for Wales Class 769 presumably going for refurbishment.

Five class 37s made for an interesting day from Colas, West Coast and Rail Operations Group.
Apologies I didnt caption the Network Rail Test Train 37s - but you can see the numbers and name, I think.
