To readjust the size of your Smart Object to the outline of your artwork, first open the Smart Object in a new tab (double click on the layer thumbnail). Next create a selection of the outline of your artwork. Then go to "Image" and then "Crop". Finally, save the Smart Object and return to your original tab!
