Giraffe Centre Africa

The Africa Fund for Endangered Wildlife was founded in 1979 by Jock Leslie-Melville & Betty Leslie-Melville.

Betty Leslie-Melville began the Giraffe Centre of the Rothschild Giraffe she brought two young giraffes, Daisy and Marlon to their home & raised the calves and started a programme of breeding giraffe in captivity.

In 1983, funds raised by The Africa Fund for Endangered Wildlife USA, helped build the Educational Centre on a 60-acre sanctuary.

The Giraffe Centre has also become world-famous as a Nature Education Centre, educating thousands of Kenyan school children every year.

The Giraffe Centre opened its doors to the general public in 1983.

We visited The Giraffe Centre in 2011, it was an amazing experience, members of staff told us about the history of the Rothschild Giraffes, it was very educational.
