You are holding on to the stick, which gives more points of contact, so your brain can better understand where you are in space and how your body is moving. So there's more information being processed about what muscles are working, where there are weaknesses, who wants to jump in and compensate... Now you're also holding the stick throughout, potentially trying to keep it steady or keep your body from hitting it, so you have another thing to focus on, making it more complex brain work.

All the while, you are also working to maintain balance and coordination. That's a lot of plates to spin at once, but that's what makes it fun!
