Sattar - traditional uyghur bowed lute

Описание к видео Sattar - traditional uyghur bowed lute

The Sattar is a traditional long neck lute of the uyghur people. It's special feature is, that it is played with a bow instead of fingers or a plektrum like most long necked lutes. It is related to other lutes with a long neck like the uzbek and uyghur Tambur, the uzbek/tajik Sato or the turkish Tambur.

The Sattar is equipped with about 13 strings, but only one is used as a melody string. The others are tuned in the used mugam or scale and function as resonance strings.

Nowadays it still holds an important role in the 12 mugam music of the uyghurs.
