Five Moments of Day (1977/78)

Five short pieces for flute (also alto flute) and guitar, through which the Dutch composer Walter Hekster (1937 - 2012) expresses different moods related to a specific part of the day. As in Indian classical music the energy differs radically from one movement to another, but Hekster's musical language remains contemporary western and doesn't interfere with the Indian raga structures.

Since 1978 I have been playing Five Moments of Day with differents flutists all over the planet. Recently, 4 November 2023, I had the honor to perform with Ferenc Hutÿra at his home in Enschede, Netherlands. Ferenc was a personal friend of the composer.
