Step by Step Instructions On Unhitching a 5th Wheel (Full Time RV Living)👌

Unhitching an RV from a tow vehicle can be a scary process if you don't follow some simple rules and processes.

We made a pretty embarrassing mistake the first time we disconnected our RV from our truck. (as we explain in the video) Since then, we never disconnect our RV without going step-by-step from our checklist.

If you're new to RVing then you know there is a lot to learn and some things are pretty scary the first few times you do them. Using a checklist is a great way to create a repeatable process, and a safe process. When it comes to hooking up an RV or unhooking an RV, one mistake can be costly.

Our complete travel day unhitching checklist
• TRUCK - Place RV in desired location
• TRUCK - Set parking brake
• RV – Full Walkaround
• RV - Verify sewer hoses reach
• RV - Verify electric cords reach
• RV - Verify water hoses reach
• RV - Verify room for sliders
• RV - Verify room for awnings
• RV – Place wheel chocks
• RV - Lower front landing gear to take pressure off hitch
• TRUCK – Tailgate DOWN
• TRUCK – Disconnect Electrical cord and stow
• TRUCK - Disconnect Breakaway cable and stow
• TRUCK – OPEN Hitch Latch and lock open
• TRUCK - Pull away from RV
• TRUCK – Adjust suspension to 7 psi
• TRUCK - CLOSE tailgate
• RV - Level RV
