BIMHUIS TV Presents: YANNICK HIWAT QUINTET

Promising violin player connects jazz to gospel, hip-hop and classical music.

Yannick Hiwat works as a violin player and composer with internationally lauded bands such as Snarky Puppy and Pete Rock & The Soul Brothers. In The Netherlands he has made name with the Rotterdam-based Re:Freshed Orchestra. He was an artist-in-residence at De Doelen and the Concertgebouw. With his quintet he brings his own compositions to life.

With the remarkable combination of seven-string mezzo violin (the only instrument of its kind in the world) and tenor saxophone, the group sounds both unique and familiar. The compositions fit within contemporary jazz, and at the same time they display a fondness for gospel, hip-hop and classical music.
