Celebrated saxophonist from New York, strongly influenced by his Puerto Rican roots.

Miguel Zenon alto sax, Luis Perdomo piano, Hans Glawischnig bass, Henry Cole drums

First and foremost, Miguel Zenón is a great alto saxophonist, renowned for his rich tone, powerful playing and imaginative improvisations. As a composer he often focuses on the culture of his native Puerto Rico, and of the Puerto Rican community in his hometown New York. For example, his recent album El Arte Del Bolero is dedicated to the bolero, the popular dance music from the 1950s. He recorded this album with Luis Perdomo, pianist in his working quartet with which he will perform at the BIMHUIS.

Miguel Zenón keeps on surprising the jazz world with different views on Puerto Rican music culture, from almost classical chamber music to jazz variations on songs of crooner Ismael Rivera. As a saxophone player he has collaborated with famous colleagues; his album debut appeared on the label of Branford Marsalis, and he played in the SFJAZZ Collective with Joshua Redman, Mark Turner and Joe Lovano.
