Kids that chew on everything is quite common in the early stages of development. Sometimes children will chew on shirts, their sleeves, their fingernails, and other toys even. In many cases, I’ve seen people recommend chew toys for kids with these issues. However, I usually always strongly advise against the use of autism chew toys or other objects that alleviate the oral fixation issues parents might be seeing. Instead, I recommend parents to see a doctor, and do an assessment on how this chewing issue persists in their child.

This video will also talk a bit about supplements and other medications. I’ve talked on many videos in the past now, about supplements for kids with autism. Sometimes the answer to how to get kids to stop chewing their nails or toys doesn’t lie in a chew toy but in deficiencies in certain nutrients, vitamins, or things like copper and zinc. This is where supplements can come into play to help the problem, but I still would always encourage parents to see a doctor first. I cannot provide you medical advice on what you should be giving, these are merely just some things to think about, and to discuss with your doctor for potential solutions.
