Take a 750-mile trek on foot through America's most iconic national park to witness its sublime beauty but also learn how commercial developments are poised to change it. National Geographic photographer Pete McBride undertook this wilderness odyssey with his friend and writer, Kevin Fedarko, to understand how we are passing “America’s best idea”—its national park system—forward to the next generation while balancing the demands for access with conservation. Native Coloradan Pete McBride has spent two decades studying the world with a camera. A self-taught photographer, filmmaker, writer, and public speaker, he has traveled on assignment to over 75 countries for the National Geographic Society, PBS, Smithsonian, Outside, Esquire, Google, The Nature Conservancy, and many more. After completing his Grand Canyon project, National Geographic named him and Fedarko, “Adventurers of the Year.” McBride’s book The Grand Canyon: Between River and Rim (Rizzoli) is available where fine books are sold and his feature-length documentary, Into the Grand Canyon, is available on the National Geographic Channel and Hulu. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
