In a hybrid TEDx talk and performance, Christiana Rose invites you into her creative process and performance practice that combines acrobatic movement, digital synthesis, and interactive technology. She uses a Kinect sensor to track her body in motion and maps her movement to musical gestures by programming in software called Max. Rose performs a new work, Stretch, Fall, Hover, live with her interactive musical system. Christiana Rose is an interdisciplinary artist who blends the disciplines of sound, circus arts, film, dance, theater, and interactive technology. Growing up in Colorado as a musician and gymnast, music and movement have always been important aspects of her life but it wasn’t until she studied as a double-degree student at Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music that she realized she could integrate them. At Oberlin, she also discovered circus and circuitry. A light bulb went off and ever since her creative practice has explored the tangled web of relationships between humans, nature, and machines. Rose's work often involves collaboration and specializes in electroacoustic and interactive music composition, sound design for film and theater, partner acrobatic and aerialist performance, and experimental improvisation with musicians and dancers. She has presented work in festivals, galleries, and conferences in the US and Europe. Rose recently completed the professional training program at MOTH Contemporary Circus Center and is currently pursuing her masters in Digital Musics at Dartmouth College. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
