Lake Biwa | Epic 150k Day

Epic day of cycling 150k’s around Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake. The ride is mostly flat and well marked; in fact, you can see the blue arrows on the roads indicating the direction of the cycle path. With so much to see, this quick 150k is a must for any serious cyclist in Japan.

Today was a humbling day. I was not adequately prepared. Around 40k’s in my front tire had a flat, and I did not have a spare tube, just a few untested patches. The patches did not hold and the pump broke. It took nearly 3 hours to sort out my tire, but I eventually got back on the road. Lesson learned.

If you are a cyclist in Japan, Biwa should be on your bucket list. It’s a nice reprieve from the mountains, which allows you to travel considerable distance, while taking in the beautiful scenery of the lake. You can also say that you cycled around the largest lake in Japan!
